10th Anniversary of CIMP

Curtin University’s Centre for Infrastructural Monitoring and Protection (CIMP) celebrated its 10th anniversary during the banquet of the inaugural International Conference on Infrastructural Monitoring and Protection (CIMP1-2025), held at the Parmelia Hilton Perth with over 150 participants in attendance.

CIMP was established in 2015 within the School of Civil and Mechanical Engineering by John Curtin Distinguished Professor Hong Hao to establish Curtin’s research excellence in Structural Engineering and Structural Dynamics. Over its first decade, CIMP has achieved remarkable success, securing 23 CIMP-led ARC grants, including 12 prestigious ARC Fellowships (1 ARC Laureate Fellowship, 3 ARC Future Fellowships, 5 ARC DECRA Fellowships, 3 ARC Industry Fellowships), totalling over $12 million. Curtin University has also been named by the Australian Newspaper as Australia’s leading institution in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering for three consecutive years (2023, 2024, and 2025) and Hong Hao was recognized as the Australian research field leader in both fields.

Chaired by CIMP Director Professor Wensu Chen and Deputy Director Professor Jun Li, CIMP1-2025 brought together researchers and engineers from Australia, China, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Spain, the United States, and Korea. The conference featured eight plenary lectures by internationally renowned experts and was very well received. The event included an opening address by Curtin’s Acting Pro Vice-Chancellor, Professor Chris Rawson, and a banquet address by the Dean of Engineering and Head of the School of Civil and Mechanical Engineering, Professor Jonathan Paxman.

With the continued support of the School, the Faculty, and Curtin University, CIMP is moving toward its next decade of innovation and excellence.
