2025

  • Jun Li was appointed as a member of the ARC College of Experts.
  • Zhen Peng received the IPC Outstanding Research Award, and Jun Li received the Distinguished Contribution Award from the 11th International Conference on Innovative Production and Construction, held in Perth, 7-9 August 2025.

2024

  • The 9th International Colloquium on Performance, Protection & Strengthening of Structures Under Extreme Loading & Events (PROTECT 2024) was held in August in Singapore. The PROTECT 2024 featured an honorary session to honour and commemorate the substantial academic achievements of John Curtin Distinguished Professor Hong Hao.
  • Hong Hao was once again recognised as the field leader in Civil Engineering by The Australian Research Magazine 2025, where Curtin is the lead institution in the Structural Engineering field.
  • Wensu Chen was honoured with the prestigious Nishino Prize at the 18th East Asia-Pacific Conference on Structural Engineering & Construction (EASEC-18) in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
  • Jun Li received the Faculty Mid-Career Research Award at Curtin University and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University Graduate School Outstanding Research Postgraduate Young Alumni Award.
  • Haoran Zuo was recognised with the Best Young Researcher’s Paper Award (co-authored with Xunyi Pan, Kaiming Bi, and Hong Hao) at the 18th East Asia-Pacific Conference on Structural Engineering & Construction (EASEC-18) in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

2023

  • Hong Hao was elected as Foreign Member of Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE).
  • Hong Hao was again recognised as the Field leader in both Civil Engineering and Structural Engineering by The Australian Research Magazine 2024; Curtin is the lead institution in both Civil and Structural Engineering fields.
  • Wensu Chen received 2023 Curtin Award for Research Excellence – Planet (Mid-career/Senior Researcher), Curtin University, Nov 2023.
  • Wensu Chen received 2022 Mid-Career Research Award, Faculty of Science and Engineering, Curtin University, July 2023.
  • Zhijie Huang, Musaad Khan, Wensu Chen, Hong Hao, and Thong Pham received the KCPT Highly Commendable Paper Award at the 14th International Conference on Shock & Impact Loads on Structures in Singapore in 2023.
  • Tuan Ngo’s PhD thesis received the Highly Commended Award from the Concrete Institute of Australia, 2023.
  • CIMP member Dr Zhen Peng received Gold Medal in the 2nd China postdoctoral innovation & entrepreneurship competition

2022

  • Hong Hao was awarded the prestigious Nishino Medal for his outstanding contribution to structural engineering and construction in the Asia-Pacific region at the opening ceremony of the 17th East Asia-Pacific Conference on Structural Engineering and Construction (EASEC-17), Singapore.
  • One paper by Cheng Xu, Wensu Chen, Hong Hao, Thong Pham and Kaiming Bi received the Featured Paper Award in Engineering Structures in 2022.
  • One paper by Cheng Xu, Wensu Chen, Hong Hao, Thong Pham and Kaiming Bi received the Runner-up Award for Best Paper of the Year 2022 in Engineering Structures, chosen from over 1,400 papers that year.
  • Honours student Luke McBeath, supervised by Wensu Chen and PhD student Paing Htet, won the 1st place 2022 Rising Stars Award from the Concrete Institute of Australia-WA section, competing with others from UWA and ECU.
  • Dong Tan and Zhenghao Ding (a former PhD student), supervised by Jun Li and Hong Hao, received the Third Prize at the 2nd International Competition for Structural Health Monitoring (IC-SHM, 2021).

2021

  • Dr Tin Do was awarded the National Bursary Award 2021 from the Concrete Institute of Australia for the biennial best thesis in Australia. This is the first in WA in the history of 20 years of the award.
  • Thong Pham, Tuan Ngo, and Hong Hao received the 2021 Award for Excellence in the Technology and Innovation Category from the Concrete Institute of Australia-WA Section.

2020

  • CIMP team received Curtin Researcher Team Award for Research Excellence.
  • Hong Hao was listed as the Australia research field leader in Civil Engineering.
  • Hong Hao was elected the Distinguished Fellow of the International Association of Protective Structures (IAPS), the highest honour given by IAPS, in recognition of distinguished contributions to the field of protective structures and for services to the profession.
  • Xihong Zhang was awarded the Curtin Early Career Researcher of the Year.
  • Xihong Zhang was awarded the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Early Career Researcher Award.
  • Xihong Zhang was the Finalist of the Premier’s Science Award (Woodside Early Career Scientist of the Year).

2019

  • Hong Hao received the prestigious Charles Bubb Medal during the Australian Earthquake Engineering Society (AEES) conference held in Newcastle in December 2019.
  • Hong Hao received the award for the decade’s Best Research Project in Structural Health Monitoring in Australia, from the Australian Network of Structural Health Monitoring (ANSHM) at the 11th ANSHM annual workshop, held in Dec 2019 in Gold Coast.
  • Jun Li was awarded the Nishino Prize at the 16th East Asia-Pacific Conference on Structural Engineering & Construction, held in Brisbane from 4-6 Dec 2019.
  • Thong Pham was awarded the Best Young Researcher’s Paper Award on his paper titled “Flexural performance of precast segmental concrete beams prestressed with CFRP tendons” at the 16th East Asia-Pacific Conference on Structural Engineering & Construction, held in Brisbane from 4-6 Dec 2019. The paper was co-authored with PhD student Tan Le and Prof. Hong Hao.
  • Thong Pham, Hong Hao and Tin Do received the Japan Society of Civil Engineering (JSCE) Highly Commendable Paper Award at the 13th International Conference on Shock & Impact Loads on Structures, 2019.
  • Zhejian Li received excellent student presentation award from international symposium on structures and materails inspired by Origami (SAMIO2019) in 2019.

2018

  • Hong Hao was selected as an ARC Laureate Fellow.
  • Hong Hao received the 2018 John de Laeter Award for Research Leadership from Curtin University.
  • Hong Hao received the PVC’s Annual Researchers of the Year Award from Curtin University, 2018.
  • Wensu Chen was the Finalist for Western Australia Premier’s Science Awards-Early Career Scientist of the year of 2018 and 2017.
  • Thong Pham was selected as the Finalist of Early Career Research Award from Curtin University in 2018.
  • Jingde Li was selected as the final list of Moulton Medal for the best 10 papers published by IChemE, 2018.
  • Zhejian Li received HDR Mobility Scholarship from Curtin University and 7OSME Gabriella & Paul Rosenbaum Foundation Award in 2018.

2017

  • Hong Hao received the JM Ko Medal fromAdvances in Structural Engineering-An International Journal in 2017.
  • Wensu Chen received Curtin University Research Excellence Early Career Researcher Award of the year of 2017.
  • Jun Li was the Finalist for Western Australia Premier’s Science Awards-Early Career Scientist of the year of 2017 and 2016.
  • Jun Li received the Distinguished Early Career Research Award at the First Australia-China Conference on Science, Technology and Innovation (ACCSTI1) in 2017.
  • Chao Li won Outstanding PhD researcher award and Best presenter award from Western Australia Chinese Scientists Association in 2017.
  • Haoran Zuo won the Research Award from Western Australia Chinese Scientists Association in 2017.
  • Zhenghao Ding won the Research Award from Western Australia Chinese Scientists Association in 2017.

2016

  • Hong Hao was selected as a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (ATSE).
  • Jun Li (Senior Lecturer) was selected the Finalist for Western Australia Premier’s Science Awards-Early Career Scientist of the Year.
  • Jun Li (Senior Lecturer) received Curtin University Pro Vice-Chancellor Early Career Researcher Awards for Research Excellence for year 2016.
  • Kaiming Bi and Prof. Hong Hao received the JM Ko Medal from Advances in Structural Engineering-An International Journal.
  • Kaiming Bi was selected as the Finalist for Western Australia Premier’s Science Awards-Early Career Scientist of the Year.
  • Yifei Hao and Prof. Hong Hao received the Best Young Researcher’s Paper Award from the International Association of Protective Structures at the 4th International Conference on Protective Structures (ICPS4) held in Beijing, China.
  • Jun Li (Visiting Research Fellow) and Prof. Hong Hao received the Best Paper Award at the Second Asian Conference on Defence Technology (ACDT-2) held at Chiang Mai, Thailand.
  • Jun Li (Visiting Research Fellow) and Prof. Hong Hao received the Best Young Researcher’s Paper Award at the 4th International Conference on Protective Structures (ICPS4) held at Beijing, China.
  • One paper authored by Dr Xihong Zhang and Prof. Hong Hao was listed as one of the 5 most highly cited papers published in International Journal of Impact Engineering.
  • Xihong Zhang and Hong Hao won the most cited articles published in Engineering Structures, 2016. Paper title: Parametric study of laminated glass window response to blast loads.
  • The PhD thesis finished by Mr Bipin Shrestha received the Letter of Commendation from the Chancellor, Curtin University.
  • Qingfei Meng won the National Award for Outstanding Students Abroad by China Scholarship Council.

2015

  • Hong Hao was awarded the title John Curtin Distinguished Professor.
  • Hong Hao received the 2015 runner-up John de Laeter Award for Research Leadership from Curtin University.
  • Jun Li (Senior Lecturer) and Prof. Hao was selected as the Finalist of Best Paper Award at 7th International Conference on Structural Health Monitoring of Intelligent Infrastructure held in Torino, Italy.
  • Xihong Zhang and Prof. Hong Hao received the IAPS Young Researcher Award at the 3rd International Conference on Protective Structures (ICPS3) held at Newcastle, Australia.

2014

  • Jun Li (Senior Lecturer) and Prof. Hong Hao received the Best Paper Award for Young Experts at the 13th International Symposium on Structural Engineering held in Hefei, China.
  • Bipin Shrestha, Prof. Hong Hao and Dr Kaiming Bi received the Best Student Paper at the Australian Earthquake Engineering Society (AEES) annual conference held in Lorne, Australia.
  • Francisco Hernandez and Prof. Hong Hao received the Karagozian & Case Highly Commendable Paper Award at the 6th International Conference on Protection of Structures Against Hazards (PSH 2014) held at Tianjin, China.
